Bundimba Village Business Unit was established by the Smallholder Agriculture Cluster Project in October 2025. The 30 member, located in Sinakoma ward of Binga District has brought many positive changes for the farmers.
According to Peter Mudenda, one of the farmers, the farmers are happy with the many benefits that include being able to water their livestock. He said, “We are very happy with our village business unit and the Smallholder Agriculture Cluster Project. They drilled a borehole for us and we are now accessing tapped water. Most of the tasks that were difficult for us are now easy to carry out.”
He added, “SACP also constructed an animal trough for our cattle. As I speak, it is now easy to look after our cattle as we no longer struggle, searching for our livestock in the forest. The cattle now return on their own to drink water at the VBU.”
Commenting about their garden, Mudenda said, “The project also connected water to this garden from the borehole which about 500 metres away. The installed tanks and a drip irrigation system in this garden. All the people who benefitted from this intervention are especially pleased with the production that is taking place.”
Although it is still early days, the farmers are excited about the production and sales in their garden. Village Business Unit Chairperson, Mazuba Mugande said, “Our first crop was maize and after sales, we made US$334. We also grew butternut which we sold and made an income of US$$150.00. We also grew other crops such as tomatoes, onions, spinach and carrots. The total income for the VBU was US$691.00”
