Tariro Agriculture Producer Groupstarted in 2021 as an Internal Savings And Lending group (ISAL), which later ventured into the poultry value chain. It is made up of 30 members who comprise 6 males, 24 females and 9 youths. The APG is located in Masaraure Village in Ward 15of Murewa District, Mashonaland East Province. The group currently uses a traditional hut as a fowl run which is exposing the chickens high mortality due to poor ventilation. The fowl run is also difficult to clean and disinfect as well as having limited temperature controls and spacing challenges.
Intervention and practices applied
After receiving training on Gender Action Learning System (GALS) and Group Dynamics in July 2025 as well as capacitation of their gender champion, they developed a Vision Journey for construction of a standardised fowl run. With support from poultry supplier, Irvines on broiler production, the group focused on constructing a 3.2m by 10m fowl run based on three milestones which they set as follows;
- First milestone (February to April) -mobilisation of bricks
- Second milestone (May to July)- mobilisation of other building material including 25000 bricks for 5 fowl runs, 10 1ron sheets , chicken meshwire, feeders and drinkers
- Third milestone (August 2026)-procurement of cement
- September 2026 -construction of the 5 fowl runs with capacity of 1000 birds.
As of July 2026, bricks and chicken mesh wire had been mobilised with construction of one fowl run now at beam level as shown below.
