Officers from the Smallholder Agriculture Cluster Project recently toured village and school business units set up by the Government through the Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (ARDA) and the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA). The VBUs visited included Gosha in Goromonzi District, Gwebu Primary School Business Unit in Buhera, Simpambi Village Business Unit in Masvingo as well as Jinjika VBU in Mangwe District.
The areas of interest included crops grown, other income generating streams within the VBUs, targeting and selection as well as market linkages for the farmers. The lessons drawn from the experiences of both farmers and technical staff will inform the rolling out of VBU under SACP. The project is equipping 100 village business units in Matabeleland North, Midlands, Mash Central, Mash West and Mash East. The first 20 VBUs were established in Matabeleland North Province.
